Special transformers have many weld points and long welds
1. Rubber seal failure and weld cracking
Special transformers have many weld points and long welds, and oil-immersed special transformers are a collection of various welds and connections based on steel plate welded housings.
A QB-5000/2 oil-immersed traction transformer has more than 70 weld points and a total weld length of nearly 20 meters, so there may be many leakage paths. The direct cause of leakage is rubber seal failure and weld cracking, pores, slag inclusion, etc.
2. Aging, cracking, and deformation of sealing components
Leakage in special transformers mostly occurs at the joints, and more than 95% is caused by sealing components.
The quality of sealing components mainly depends on their oil resistance. Those with poor oil resistance age faster, especially at high temperatures, where aging is faster and easily leads to aging, cracking, deterioration, and deformation of the seals, causing them to fail and resulting in transformer oil leakage.
3. Manufacturing quality of special transformers
During the manufacturing process of special transformers, the large number of weld points, long weld seams, difficulty in welding, welding materials, welding (classification characteristics of welding process equipment) specifications, processes, and technologies all affect the welding quality, causing pores, pinholes, poor welds, and incomplete welds, resulting in oil leakage from the special transformers.
4. Poor quality of plate butterfly valves
Another common leakage point in special transformers is the plate butterfly valve. Earlier transformers used ordinary plate butterfly valves with rough and thin connecting surfaces, single-layer sealing, and were outdated products, easily causing transformer oil leakage.
5. Improper installation method
The flange connection is uneven, and the sealing gasket cannot be evenly stressed during installation; artificial uneven stress on the bolts around the sealing gasket; deformation and misalignment of the flange joint, causing excessive stress on one side of the sealing gasket and less stress on the other side, resulting in insufficient compression on the side with less stress and easily causing leakage.
