Energy security is crucial to the overall economic and social development. This year's government work report proposes "strengthening the security capabilities in key areas" and "strengthening the security of energy resources, increasing the exploration and development of oil, gas, and strategic mineral resources."
In 2023, China's electricity generation from large-scale industrial enterprises reached 8.9 trillion kWh, effectively supporting the stabilization and recovery of economic growth and the GDP exceeding 126 trillion yuan. With a GDP growth target of around 5% this year, how can the energy and power industry better play its fundamental supporting role and serve high-quality economic and social development? Representatives and committee members have held heated discussions on this issue.
Promoting the construction of ultra-high voltage power infrastructure to enhance power supply capacity
The national installed power generation capacity has exceeded 2.9 billion kilowatts, the annual electricity generation from clean energy has exceeded 3.19 trillion kilowatt-hours, and the per capita installed power generation capacity has reached 2.1 kilowatts per person...Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China's new energy system has been rapidly built, and the foundation of energy security has been continuously consolidated, providing strong support for economic and social development. At the same time, it must also be seen that China's energy development still faces a series of challenges, including huge demand pressure, many supply constraints, and the arduous task of green and low-carbon transformation.
According to the prediction of the China Electricity Council, in 2024, China's total electricity consumption will increase by about 6% compared with 2023. Based on China's resource endowment, how can we further enhance power supply capacity and meet the growing electricity demand of the whole society? The government work report proposes: "Strengthening the construction of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic bases and transmission channels, promoting the development and utilization of distributed energy, developing new energy storage, promoting the use and international recognition of green electricity, playing the role of coal and coal-fired power generation as a safety net, and ensuring the energy needs of economic and social development."
In recent years, State Grid Corporation of China has put into operation a large number of "West-to-East Power Transmission" and "North-to-South Power Transmission" energy arteries. By the end of 2023, a total of 35 ultra-high voltage projects have been completed, effectively ensuring the safe and reliable supply of electricity. Many representatives and committee members have high hopes for the construction of ultra-high voltage and other power infrastructure.
